What a long trip but at least we arrived South Africa.

AMALIA

This is the city Bree Street where mom and dad killed. It’s a big city. A big one but hold people’s lives.

KAULA

Where to now?

AMALIA

I want to see where mom and dad died before I can think about other things.

TAXI RANK COMES ALIVE.

KAULA

I think it’s there where that lady took pictures.

AMALIA

You are right. (Beat)

SANDRA

They were good people.

AMALIA

Sorry?

SANDRA

I mean your parents were good and caring people. They shouldn’t die like the way they died.

AMALIA

How do you know that those died are my parents?

SANDRA

Before your parents killed I used to come here Bree Street to do a photo-shoots then one day when I was busy taking photos I heard a voice calling me then when I went close to them a woman gave me a plate full of food because that day I spent it doing photos since that day when I come here I go stay with them and have little chat that’s when she gave me this picture.

AMALIA

You from Zimbabwe too.

SANDRA

(Laughing) No I’m from Nigeria.

KAULA

Nigeria… So what’s brings you here in this country Like this one.

SANDRA

Well I’m here for studying I’m a student at Wits University Braamfontein

Braamfontein It’s not far from here. I’m studying journalism it’s my second year.

AMALIA

Wits University? That’s one of the best university here.

SANDRA

Yeah.

KAULA

So you just take pictures for fun?

SANDRA

No this photos that I’m taking I’m going to do documentary.

Look guys we have to get out of this place if those people find us here they will kill us.

KAULA

Where are you taking us?

SANDRA

We are going to my house…. Let’s go

KAULA

Let’s go Amalia.

AMALIA

No I’m not going anyway I want to face those people.

SANDRA

No let’s go girl…. Those people they’ll kill you like an animal and when you die you will leave your sibling with who? So let’s go okay.

KAULA

He is my boyfriend Kaula.

Ooh yeah I recognise her have seat guys and welcome just feel free like you at home……. How was the trip from Zimbabwe to come here?

AMALIA

The trip was great…..

SANDRA

AMALIA

No thanks….. Where did you get the pictures that are on the wall?

SANDRA

I took them long time ago.

AMALIA

Ooh I see I now remember the t-shirt that mom is wearing on this one it was the day she left from home coming here…. Can we take walk to show me around?

ZANELE

You mean now?

AMALIA

Yes is there a problem?

SANDRA

But we can’t go out the streets are full of people who are out there protesting it’s not safe this time….. (Beat) I’ll take you tomorrow when I come back from class.
